December 10, 20019
Hello December! How did you arrive so quickly? We send our best wishes for a marvelous holiday season to all of our dear Huntsman Cancer Foundation friends. As we strive to provide the strongest support possible to speed new treatments and the best possible care to patients, this year was truly exceptional thanks to you.
Highlights of a year marked by unprecedented support from our community include:
- Created the Karen Haight Huntsman Presidential Endowed Chair in Cancer Research at Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI) in the amount of $1.5MM (funded by generous donors)
- Secured $145,500,000 in funding to construct the Kathryn F. Kirk Center for Comprehensive Cancer Care and Women’s Cancers. (We broke ground on this 220,000 square foot expansion to our hospital on September 5, 2019.)
(Groundbreaking ceremony for Phase V. Major donors including Spencer and Kristen Kirk participated in the ceremonial groundbreaking.) - Raised $ 4.2MM through events, which include the Huntsman Heroes program, Pink Park City Ski event, and our gala.
(Huntsman Sports Festival 10k runners and 140 rider)
(Huntsman Cancer Foundation annual Gala. 1: Peter Huntsman, Kem and Carolyn Gardner in front, Scott Smith, Larry Krystkowiak behind. 2: Peter Huntsman with HCI doctors and patients.) - Raised $2,520,528 through Sigma Chi Fraternities across the U.S. and Canada
- Raised $1.99MM from grateful patients
- Created the Jack R. and Hazel M. Robertson Presidential Endowed Chair in Cancer Research at HCI in the amount of $1.825MM
- Raised $1.32MM through our annual giving programs such as mail and online gifts in direct response to giving campaigns
- Created the Dr. Emmy Knobloch Fellowship in Cancer Research at HCI in the amount of $1,000,000
- Received promises of bequest gifts from 9 new donors who have elected to include Huntsman Cancer Foundation in their wills this year to help guarantee a future without cancer
(Pink Park City 2019 brought more than 300 skiers, snowboarders and friends out to raise money for cancer research)
These gifts all will make an enormous impact. In addition to their financial benefit, your generous support uplifts our patients and caregivers as they face a holiday season while carrying the burden of cancer. We were able to reach many of you and thank you by telephone during our inaugural Thank-A-Thon event the evenings of November 25 and 26. We were thrilled to be joined by doctors, researchers, nurses, and others as we placed calls to your homes simply to say THANK YOU!
(Dr. Wallace Akerley and Dr. Paul Shami calling to thank donors on Monday, November 25)
We look forward to continuing our partnership with you and we look forward with great optimism to 2020. We know that thanks to your donations, new treatments will emerge from our labs and additional lives will be saved. We couldn’t do this without you.
Kind regards,
