Meet Mattias Nielson, a University of Utah student and a volunteer at Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI). Mattias sat down with us during National Volunteer Week to discuss what he loves about the job.

What made you want to volunteer at HCI?

“I am a biomedical engineering student hoping to go to medical school and I needed some volunteering hours. Also, I used to work as a patient transfer and valet here at HCI. That is when I fell in love with the hospital.”

What is your favorite part of volunteering at HCI?

“The fun part is the snack cart in the Infusion Center. About once a shift you roll around the snack cart and it is one of the best things ever. The patients here in infusion sit here a while and don’t have the chance to get up and get food, so when you bring it by they just light up. I couldn’t work at a better hospital.”
