Jody completed her PhD with Dr. Tim Mitchison at UC San Francisco, where she studied actin dynamics. She did her postdoc work at University College London with Drs. Martin Raff and Louise Cramer, where she discovered apoptotic cell extrusion.

George got his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin and then received his PhD from the University of Utah with Alejandro Sánchez Alvarado, studying cellular turnover during homeostasis and regeneration in the freshwater planarian. He is now focused on understanding how the mechanisms that regulate cell proliferation and death are coordinated to maintain appropriate cell numbers in epithelial tissues. When not in the lab, George can be found running or biking on the trails behind the University. Funded by a Cancer Training Grant.

Tom is determining if cell extrusion is a mechanism exploited by cancer cells to initiate breast cancer metastasis. He is also determining similarities and differences of cell extrusion mechanism when cells are grown in 2D versus 3D environments. Funded by a Susan G. Komen Postdoctoral Fellowship.

Yapeng grew up in the central part of China. He was recruited to the Molecular Biology Graduate Program within the University of Utah in 2001 and graduated with a PhD in experimental pathology in 2008. He has been working in the Rosenblatt Lab ever since. His research interest is focused on understanding how apoptotic cells communicate with surrounding living neighbors to keep simple epithelium intact. Yapeng loves playing tennis, swimming, and running in his spare time.

Tanya studies coordination of signaling in apoptosis and extrusion, and its implications on epithelial barrier function. She received her BS in Biology from State University of New York at Purchase. Before coming to the University of Utah, she worked with Dr. Maryann McEnroe studying fish gill epithelium remodeling. Tanya was born in the Ukraine. She loves getting lost outdoors, and does not mind mud and scrapes if it means getting a nice close-up of a snake or frog.

Gloria studies how apoptotic cell extrusion is polarized and the role of cytoskeletal components in controlling the direction of extrusion. Gloria received her MS from the University of Wisconsin Madison working with Dr. Miroslav Malkovsky. She enjoys many outdoor activities, including rock climbing and road biking, and, as a good Colombian, she also loves to dance salsa and tango. Funded by a Developmental Biology Training Grant.

Tara's project is to determine if the extrusion mechanism is shared with other barrier cell types, such as the endothelium. In her spare time she enjoys crossfit, boxing, and painting.
