Extrusion in Zebrafish Larvae

To study the physiological relevance of our extrusion studies in cell culture in a whole organism, we have turned to the model organism Danio rero (zebrafish). Using zebrafish, we can study the fate of basally extruded cells that are blocked from cell death—can they cut through matrix and enter the bloodstream? Further, we can study what regulates cell numbers to maintain epithelial homeostasis.
