Sung Wan Kim, PhD, is a distinguished professor in the Departments of Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, and Bioengineering at the University of Utah. He is also a member of the Imaging, Diagnostics, and Therapeutics Program at Huntsman Cancer Institute.
His research involves drug delivery and medical polymers. Some of his work focuses on targeting angiogenesis, the process of growing new blood vessels to feed and nurture cells. By stopping angiogenesis within tumors, their growth could possibly be stopped.
Kim received both bachelor's and master's degrees from Seoul National University, Korea, and a PhD from the University of Utah.
He was the 2003 recipient of the Rosenblatt prize. He has trained more than 100 scientists from 13 countries and has published more than 500 academic papers.
