
Christopher Dechet, MD, FACS
Associate Professor, Division of Urology
Christopher Dechet, MD, is an associate professor in the Division of Urology at the University of Utah School of Medicine. He is a board-certfied urologist whose practice at Huntsman Cancer Institute focuses on urologic oncology, robotic surgery, and laparoscopy.
Currently Dechet's practice is dedicated to the surgical management of prostate, kidney, bladder, adrenal, and testicular cancers. He uses the DaVinci surgical system to perform robotic prostatectomy, robotic cystectomy, robotic partial nephrectomy, and robotic adrenalectomy. Dechet has performed hundreds of robotic procedures and is one of the most experienced robotic surgeons in the Intermountain West. He also has extensive experience in advanced laparoscopy and focuses on partial nephrectomy, post-chemotherapy RPLNDs for testicular cancer and cystectomy with diversion for advanced bladder cancer. He has also developed a comprehensive quality-of-life database for the improvement of surgical outcomes for prostate cancer patients.
Dechet received his undergraduate degree from Stanford University and earned his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He was the recipient of an American Heart Association research grant during his medical training. He completed a general surgery internship and urologic training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota where he received multiple awards including an achievement award from the Society for Laparoscopic Surgeons. Dechet is a member of multiple medical organizations including the American Urologic Association, the American Medical Association and the Society for Urologic Oncology. In addition, he is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Dechet sees new patients with prostate cancer diagnosed after an evaluation for a prostate nodule or elevated PSA. He has an interest in nerve-sparing prostatectomy, salvage prostatectomy and high risk disease. His practice also focuses on cystectomy with neobladder formation, radical and partial nephrectomy for renal masses and treatment of advanced testicular cancer including post-chemo RPLND. Dechet accepts most insurance plans along with IHC insurance being accepted at Huntsman Cancer Institute.
