Allogeneic Transplant Process

Several of our patients undergo treatment in our inpatient facility. These patients most often receive donor stem cells. This is known as allogeneic transplant.

You will be cared for by nurse's assistants and nurses while in the hospital.

The donor will have his or her stem cells collected from bone marrow or peripheral blood. The stem cells will be stored for transplant.

During the conditioning or preparative phase, you will receive chemotherapy. The chemotherapy will destroy your disease and prepare your marrow for new stem cells.

The next step is transplant. Your nurse will administer the donor stem cells to you. This process is similar to a blood transfusion.

A nurse will take your vital signs several times throughout the day and night.

You will meet with your advanced practice provider and physician daily during inpatient rounds. They will discuss your treatment goals for the day.

You are encouraged to participate in daily exercise, whether by walking around the inpatient unit or riding the stationary bike in your room.
